Ансамбль «Памяти воинов 28 Армии»
В ознаменование 25-летия освобождения Элисты от фашистско-немецких оккупантов в 1968 году на севере города у автотрассы Элиста-Волгоград установлен на постаменте танк Т-34 - символ несокрушимой мощи Советской Армии.
Подлинный танк, участвовавший в боях за освобождение Элисты, увековечивает народную память о доблестных воинах.
Памятник посвящен легендарной 28-й Армии, в которой сражались части под командованием генерал-лейтенанта В.Ф. Герасименко в составе 34-й гвардейской стрелковой дивизии под командованием подполковника Н.З. Галая, 152-й отдельной стрелковой дивизии под командованием майора С.И. Алексеенко, 6-й гвардейской танковой бригады под командованием полковника Л.Д.Рейно, 103-го гвардейского стрелкового полка под командованием Г.Н. Кудрявцева.
28-я Армия остановила продвижение гитлеровцев к устью Волги в начале сентября 1942 года.
Освобождение Элисты было осуществлено в ходе контрнаступления Красной Армии под Сталинградом. 31 декабря 1942 года состоялось решающее сражение за столицу Калмыкии. За несколько минут до наступления нового 1943 года части 28-й Армии вошли в Элисту.
Памятник высотой 3.4 м расположен на кургане радиусом 40 м. 6-метровая стела с рельефным изображением танкиста, летчика и пехотинца оформлена текстом с именами освободителей города.
Место для установки мемориала выбрано неслучайно. Именно с этого направления пришло долгожданное освобождение. И, как символ свободы, каждого, кто въезжает в столицу с севера, встречает памятник – свидетельство героического прошлого нашей истории. С вершины открывается панорамный вид на город.

Memorial dedicated to soldiers of 28th Army
To commemorate the 25th anniversary of the liberation of Elista from the Nazi-German invaders in 1968, in the north of the city, near the Elista-Volgograd highway, a T-34 tank was installed on a pedestal - a symbol of the indestructible power of the Soviet Army.
The original tank, which took part in the battles for the liberation of Elista, perpetuates the people's memory of the valiant warriors.
The monument is dedicated to the legendary 28th Army, in which units under the command of Lieutenant General V.F. Gerasimenko as part of the 34th Guards Rifle Division under the command of Lieutenant Colonel N.Z. Galaya, 152nd separate rifle division under the command of Major S.I. Alekseenko, 6th Guards Tank Brigade under the command of Colonel L.D. Reino, 103rd Guards Rifle Regiment under the command of G.N. Kudryavtseva.
The 28th Army stopped the advance of the Nazis to the mouth of the Volga in early September 1942.
The liberation of Elista was carried out during the counteroffensive of the Red Army at Stalingrad. On December 31, 1942, the decisive battle for the capital of Kalmykia took place. A few minutes before the onset of the new 1943, units of the 28th Army entered Elista.
The 3.4 m high monument is located on a mound with a radius of 40 m. A 6-meter stele with a relief image of a tankman, pilot and infantryman is decorated with text with the names of the city's liberators.
The place for the memorial was not chosen by chance. It was from this direction that the long-awaited liberation came. And, as a symbol of freedom, everyone who enters the capital from the north is greeted with a monument - evidence of the heroic past of our history. The top offers a panoramic view of the city.
